ABOUT
Tony Kent is a thriller writer who also happens to be a top criminal barrister and a former heavyweight boxing champion, and he draws on that unique legal and physical experience to bring a striking authenticity to the fast-paced, high-octane and action packed books set in his ‘Killer Intent universe’: Killer Intent, Marked for Death, Power Play, No Way To Die and now The Shadow Network.
In a so-far 20-year career at the English Bar, Tony has prosecuted and defended in some of the country’s highest-profile criminal trials. He began his life in the law at London’s leading criminal chambers, during which time he became one of the youngest barristers to be ranked as ‘a leader in his field’ in serious crime by the premier independent guide to the Bar. After ten years he left chambers to found and co-own a highly specialised private criminal defence firm, focused on the most serious cases with a client list that includes politicians, royals, celebrities, sportspeople and other public figures. Throughout his career Tony has frequently dealt not only with the UK government but also with Scotland Yard, the NCA, MI5 and the FBI, as well as some of the UK and Europe’s most infamous organised crime groups.
Tony also frequently appears as a criminal justice expert on a number of True Crime TV shows, including Netflix Top Five hit My Lover, My Killer, the similarly themed Meet, Marry, Murder (available on Amazon Prime and coming soon to Netflix) and Channel 5’s Kill Thy Neighbour. And May 2022 will see the launch of an as yet unnamed weekly True Crime podcast hosted by Tony and fellow thriller writer - and former police officer - Neil Lancaster, in which they will examine areas of crime, policing, criminal justice and cold cases from the very different and often conflicting perspective of a trial lawyer and a cop.
Prior to embarking on his legal career Tony was a successful boxer, competing internationally and winning a host of national titles, only retiring when he discovered that black eyes and missing teeth did not sit well next to his wig and gown. Once he quit fighting himself, Tony began to train white collar boxers and ultimately founded the country’s most successful white collar charity boxing event - The Floats Like A Butterfly Ball - which to date has raised over £1,000,000 for Caudwell Children.
He lives just outside of London with his wife Victoria, their young son Joseph and Jack Russell terrier Maximus.
