About

Tony Kent is a thriller writer, a criminal barrister and a former champion boxer who has been acclaimed by the UK press as 'the British David Baldacci’.

He writes the bestselling Joe Dempsey / Michael Devlin series of political action thrillers, beginning in 2018 with 'Killer Intent' and continuing thereafter with 'Marked For Death', 'Power Play', 'No Way To Die' and ‘'The Shadow Network'. His series protagonist Joe Dempsey was dubbed 'The British Jack Reacher' by The Sunday Times and all of his last three books were picked as ‘Thriller of the Month’ by the same newspaper and its sister publication, The Times.

In 2024 Tony was selected to co-write ‘Revenge of Odessa’, alongside thriller-writing legend Frederick Forsyth. A contemporary-set sequel to the classic ‘The Odessa Files’, Revenge of Odessa will be released in the UK in October 2025 and in the USA in Nov 2025. Frederick Forsyth’s death in the months before publication have served to make this the final novel from the man Tony refers to as ‘The Master’.

As one of the country’s most in-demand criminal barristers Tony frequently defends the most serious criminal allegations in the Crown Courts of England and Wales, a role which has seen him dealing with the UK government, Scotland Yard, the National Crime Agency, MI5, Interpol and the FBI, as well as some of the world’s most notorious organised crime groups. He has also appeared as a criminal justice expert across all facets of the UK media, from national news outlets to true crime podcast and even as a case expert on TV crime shows such as Netflix hits My Lover, My Killer, the similar themed Meet, Marry Murder and the Channel Five hit Kill Thy Neighbour.

Prior to embarking on his legal career Tony was a successful heavyweight boxer, competing internationally and winning a host of national titles. He only retired from this side of his life when he discovered that black eyes and missing teeth did not sit well along with a three-piece suit, wig and gown.

Away from his two careers Tony is heavily involved in charity work. He was fhe founder and organiser of The Floats Like A Butterfly Ball - a prestigious and glamorous white collar boxing ball that has do far raised over £1,000,000 for Caudwell Children - and in 2023 he co-founded the CHILTERN KILLS crime-writing festival in the town of Gerrards Cross, held in aid of youth homelessness charity CentrepointUK. Chiltern Kills returns on Oct 4th 2025.

Tony lives just outside London with his wife Victoria, their son Joseph and their Jack-Russell terrier Maximus, where he focuses on family life, work, writing and - with what little time he has left - a new found passion for weight-training.
